Otherwise, I would estimate the value of the AE-1 body, presuming it’s in decent condition at about $50 to $75. Listings that just closed today on eBay were for $49, 33.32, 61.03 (with lens), $41.00 (with flash and lens), $145 (with zoom lenses), etc. However, why anyone would pay $150 on Craigslist still appears to be mysterious for me, while one could buy 3 such bodies on eBay for the same price.

To put it in a nutshell, the Canon AE-1 was a good camera in its time, but it’s not worth that much anymore. Yet, it may still worth quite a bit more to you. If you can get good photos out of it, the camera could be priceless. The Canon AE-1 had a long-lasting legacy in the camera industry, as manufacturers introduced increasingly advanced electronic focusing and metering system. Oddly enough, people still find themselves shooting in manual mode. It’s not about the actual results you may get by doing with such a lens; it’s the experience and rewards gained by working with a camera of such a legendary status. The Polaroid 300 film has the same features and specs as the Fujifilm 7s. Canon EOS 60D is one of the most popular cameras. It suits all kinds of photographers, from amateur to pro. But some newcomers don’t know how to use it. So today, we will help you master it. We will go through the three most important aspects of a camera: shutter speed, aperture, and HDR.

1. Canon 60D shutter speed setting

Shutter speed is the period where the camera’s shutter is open. It determines how your photos are exposed to light. The longer the shutter speed is, the brighter your image is.

There’re 2 ways to control the shutter speed of Canon EOS 60D. You can change it in Tv mode (shutter speed priority) or in Manual mode.Tv mode can be turned on through the mode dial on top of the camera. It allows you to control shutter speed yourself. The AI takes responsibility for the rest of other settings. After switching to Tv mode, rotate the top dial adjust the shutter speed. The value will appear in the preview screen.

There is an indicator on the preview screen. It will alert when your desired images are overexposure or underexposure. Based on that you can choose the proper shutter speed.The second method is changing the shutter speed in the Manual mode. Choose the Manual mode from the mode dial. It’s showed as the “M” letter.How to change the shutter speed is remained as in Tv mode. Roll the top dial to set the desired shutter speed.

However, shutter speed is a special figure. There are other photographic aspects that can affect it.ISO is one of those values. ISO number determines how sensitive your camera is. The more sensitivity you have, the more light and noise you’ll get. And when there’s enough light, you can have faster shutter speed.Therefore, increasing the ISO number can boost the shutter speed. Just press the ISO button on top your camera. A list of available ISO will pop out.

Faster shutter speed is good for reducing shaking effects. But high ISO also means more noise. The tiny white dots aren’t better than blurred images.This is a work of a good photographer. Try to balance these two values to produce a quality photo. While maintaining a fast enough shutter speed, you have to choose the lowest ISO as possible.Practice hard and your efforts will be rewarded.

Autofocus is a helpful AI function. It helps focus on targets when capturing, making them clear and outstanding. Moreover, when an autofocus is set on any object, the image-capturing process will be shortened.

The camera will work faster. It doesn’t need time to establish the target. It quickly recognizes the object between hundreds of other things. So when you’ve done the speed-adjusting phase, press the shutter button halfway. This will put an autofocus on the desired target and speed up the shooting time. You can also use the Drive mode to capture multiple shots. When you set it to High-speed Continuous, you will shorten the capturing period for a considerable time. Or you can also turn off the Image Review feature after every shoot. This won’t affect the work of the shutter, but the whole shooting action.

2. Canon 60D Aperture setting

Changing aperture is a bit easier than the shutter speed above. Aperture is the hole which lights travels. The more open it is, the more light comes to your sensor. When the aperture is large, your photos will be lighter. The target object will be focused and clearer, the depth of field will be narrower. Everything is in contrast with when the aperture is small. Depend on the target and shooting situations, you can decide the suitable aperture sizes.

There are also 2 ways to control the aperture yourself: in the Av mode (aperture priority mode) and Manual mode. Both of the can be set by changing the mode dial on the Canon EOS 60D. In Av mode, the AI will help decide all the needed settings, except the aperture. It is your business. Rotate the top dial to select the available aperture values your camera has. Then press the shutter button halfway to lock on the object.

In Manual mode, things are different. You can’t roll the top dial anymore. You can control everything in this mode. So you need to use different toggles for each setting. The top dial is for changing the shutter speed. You now have to use the quick control on your camera’s body to choose the aperture. Just rotate it from left to right increase, and right to left to decrease the F number.

If you can’t adjust the aperture value, check the Unlock button nearby. This is a toggle for preventing unintentional changes by touching. Uncheck it and you can do everything with your aperture size. Remember to press this button again for keeping your aperture setting fixed.

Switch to the Av mode, then choose AEB in the options menu. Make sure your camera’s flash is off or it will destroy the underexposure shot. Low ISO is also recommended for taking the under-exposure shot. Adjust your desired zoom length and aperture, also your favorite angle. Now press the shutter button. Your camera will do everything automatically. It will capture three shots with three different EV (exposure value).

Then it will process the images and produce the final product. That is how you can capture an HDR photo with Canon EOS 60D.

To have an HDR photo on Canon EOS 60D, you need to:

  1. Switch to Av mode
  2. Select AEB option
  3. Turn off flash

1.The review of 120 film

Medium format camera is the type of format which using the 120 or the 220 film or both of them in the 1900s. The photographers also use the 620 film at that time. However, it was not produced with a huge amount of using, and the users prefer the 120 film because the 120 film is more convenience while taking. Therefore, many people did not know the 620 film, they only knew the 120 film and the 220 film.  So what is the difference between 120mm vs 220 mm film? Generally, the 120 film and the 220 film have approximately 61mm. In fact, the 120 film is a black paper roll with a strip of film tapped inside that is drawn through the camera(s), when the photographers take their photos. Since the paper has markings on the back, they could advance the film by looking through a red window.

There are three types of formats: 645 (16 shots), 6 x 6 (12 shots), 6 x 9 (8 shots). The users could load the film in the daylight because of the black paper roll in the 120 film. Even though it is such a basics in graphic design, there still has been a massive confusion around the DPI. Common questions are: What is the minimum DPI for printing photo and poster? How to determine the DPI while designing a graphic for publication? And how large can the photo be printed? This article will offer you the answers and clarify them so that you can have your own printing solution for any of your publication. So in this post we will know how to set the minimum DPI for printing.

What is DPI?

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch, and it is a unit of measurements for image resolution. DPI is used in desktop printers and scanners.

The meaning of converting 70 DPI or any “less than 300 DPI” to 300 DPI is that we are trying to cram more pixels into each inch. Understand this is very important to set the minimum DPI for printing. Obviously, the higher the number of pixels we can cram into that same inch of paper, the higher the quality the image is going to be on the final output, So, that’s why we have higher resolution and lower resolution or higher-quality and lower-quality images.

What affects the printing quality?

Best results are achieved when images are taken with the quality settings and highest image resolution that the camera can provide. For any image, you can determine how large it should be printed using the pixel density or the PPI. Inches are used to simplify calculations. Image resolution completely is a vital factor to set the minimum DPI for printing.

While digital images are made up of discrete blocks of color known as pixels, the images printed by inkjet printers are produced by placing tiny dots of ink onto the paper. Photo printers typically use between 6 and 10 different hues and tones to reproduce colors. Many ink dots are required to generate the tone and hue that corresponds to each pixel in the photo.

All printer drivers have raster image processor (RIP) software that demonstrates the size and placement of the ink dots on the output image. The printer driver is in charge of how the dots are laid down onto the printing material and control the resolution it will handle to be compatible with the output abilities of the printer’s print head.

If the image’s PPI resolution sent to the printer is too low, it is interpolated up, and there’s a possibility of interpolation artifacts (banding, moiré, and jagged edges). If the image’s PPI resolution is too high, the image will be downsampled, and image data is lost. For the optimum effect, there should be a correspondence between image PPI and the printer’s DPI setting.

Viewing distances

Even though human vision is good, but it has its limitations. The average human eye cannot recognize the differences in resolution at output resolutions greater than 350 pixels/inch with close examination.

Yet, as you move back from the print, you will not be able to see the complete fine details, even in good lighting conditions. As a result, graphic designers usually dwindle the output resolution without having an apparent declination in image quality. This is the final factor that affect the setting of minimum DPI for printing.

What is the standard DPI for printing?

A regular photo inkjet printer offers a linear resolution of up to 1440 DPI. In other words, it can lay down 1440 droplets of ink in each linear inch of the printing material. The dots are arranged into cells to recreate the continuous tones in the photograph. Larger cells usually have more tones while smaller cells give greater details. Thus, there’s a trade-off between output resolution and color handling.

A typical rule of thumb stated that the optimal image resolution for printing most common output sizes should be 300 PPI. According to this rule, you can divide the photo resolution by 300 will tell you approximately how big you should make prints at A4 sizes and snapshot.

Lower 300 DPI resolution begins to fall off although, it depends on the printer, you might not see much difference in print quality between 250 DPI and 300 DPI with your eyes. At typical viewing distances, the differences will probably be invisible so we’ll classify all resolutions above 250 dpi as excellent.

If you are using an 8-megapixel camera with a 3:2 ratio, you can obtain excellent cutting-edge A4 prints with 300 DPI. To achieve this result, you divide the image’longer side in pixels  (3504) by the length of the A4 paper sheet in inches (11.69). The result is 299.74 DPI, which is close to 300 DPI.

With the output resolutions at 180 DPI and below, there will be a discernible loss of properties, especially in highlights, and noise will be manifest in areas having shadowed tones. This level is rated as poor print quality.

From 180 to 250 DPI there’s a shaded area we have classified as good. Moving to the scale’s lower scale, publications made with resolutions between 180 and 200 DPI may include some artifacts in detailed areas but they might not be noticeable in big prints at regular viewing distances.

Above 250 DPI, images will be good enough to resist scrutiny at normal viewing distances. So what is the best viewing range for enlarged prints? In general, people naturally take two standpoints, the first at a distance where they can pleasantly contemplate the whole image, and the second closer in where they can observe details. The distances vary from person to person, but most people stand farther away from larger pictures and closer to smaller ones.
